Who We Are
Our
History
Background
We are a formal
body of a Board
of Directors of Africans and North Americans and others from American cultures. We are also an informal body of changing and consistent volunteers. We constantly seek additional people
to serve for 2-3 year terms on our Board. We have varied backgrounds including academics,
engineering, journalism, major corporate people, artists, writers, community leaders,
female, male, always employed, sometimes employed, youthful, mature, with various politics
and spiritualities.
Approach
AFRICA Seed uses an
international educational development approach to its work. Its basic
approach is work that is with, for and by the people. This includes
volunteers and donors, as well as Africans and South Asians with whom we
develop partnerships.
Dr. Gloria Holmes, the
organization's founder and president, was educated in both the International
Educational Development and the Early Childhood Education programs at
Columbia University's Teacher's College. Combining these two programs
offered her the opportunity to develop expertise in cultural and
cross-cultural bias and class issues, multi-level governance issues around
the globe, and childhood/family issues that affect our work.
